The art of Frederick Tofts

Quote

the art of frederick tofts
I recently did a public powerpoint presentation "The Renaissance Man", the title was created by members of our local library who are aware of my wide areas of interest, namely the arts and the sciences. I Travelled globally troubleshooting complex integrated Marine Navigation systems, was on the design team responsable to design radars for the Canadian forces Submarine Fleet. Emigrated from England to Halifax Nova Scotia Canada,  to supervise installation ot the systems in 1974, moved to Maple Ridge BC, 1979. Have always had a passion for the arts, portraits in oils, Gothic Cathedrals with indian ink, watercolors, pastels and my current medium, silverpoint pen. I attended a  local art workshop in 1998 and was introduced to the metalpoint drawing medium, I could not buy a pen so I made my own. While in England in 2001, tried to purchase a pen, but was unable to source one, so on my return to Canada I purchased a wood lathe, designed a Silverpoint pen which is named the "Frederick" silverpoint pen, that we sell in our local store. I felt the Renaissance was a good compliment for Silverpoint, as it was the medium of choice of the great masters of art, ie; Michelangelo, Leornado da Vinci, Raphael and Albrecht Drurer.

Pausic verse

Alliterative prose is a form of literature where the same word, syllable, or word sound was used consecutively, in my composition titled "Sisters" which I wrote in Florida around 1989, I have never researched the form of literature in which Sisters may be described, until today and discovered the term Alliteration. I was writing a series of mathematical, social, geographic, mythologic limiricks when the idea of writing a new and entertaining tongue twister, it was a challenge and the result was "Sisters". It is a 500 word composition in which all the words begin with the same letter, as I have not been able to identify the composition I have decided to develop a new form of verse called "Pausic verse", its a beginning and maybe you can come up with a more elequant form of verse title, if so please let me know.

nine eleven "Wings of Peace"

The fifth anniversary of the tragedy that befell us all, is upon us, a time in history that none of us will ever forget, at that time a South African artist living in Maple Ridge BC, Canada, Kathleen Tonnesen,  painted a memorial to the souls of the departed, the memorial "Release of the Souls" featured on the web site www.World-Memorial.org  that will be ordained at ground zero, on 9/11/2006.
My contribution as an artist and friend of Kathleens, was to design and manufacture the "Wings of Peace". The wings of peace are the Stars and stripes on childrens fairy wings, and are featured on the world memorial site and are given the title of a education centre for the children orphaned by 9/11, and the children of the world to educate them the values of leadership, compassion, character, integrity and strength in the face of adversity. The story of the wings of peace evolves from the "Midnite Fairy childrens Store in Maple Ridge BC, (www.midnitefairy,ca) where the children are told that the Queen of the fairies flies to the top of the tallest tree in her kingdom, flutters her wings and the fairy dust sprinkles down and spreads love, joy happiness and peace all around.  The wings of peace spreads peace and commitment to the education of the chidren around the world, and as with the Release of the Souls is a gift to the people of America from the people of Canada.

Alzheimers "Creativity is good for the mind"

While attending a workshop for personal development called "Pursuit of Excellence", one of the commitments of this program is to volunteer time in the community. I washed dishes at a local Seniors center and also spent time with the Alzheimers Society of Canada, carrying out data entry of lists of Care Homes and facilities.  My Mother died of Alzheimers Dementia, its a disease that affects one in four families in Canada, and it has a horrific affect on those families, hence my interest, and I decided to write a program to include healing art, for the well being of Alzheimers patients, to improve the quality of their life. My program is titled the "The common sense approach to a healthy mind". It consists of a routine that care givers would excercise with their patients to stimulate their memory through the senses, and improve their mind and thereby their health. We learn from Norman Cousins book "Anatomy of an illness" that laughter is good for the heart, my program adds the premise  that "creativity is good for the mind". It is a proven scientific fact that this program has, an equal healing effect of any drug available to Alzheimers patients, with none of the side effects, for further information or a copy of the program please contact the following.

Mathematical limiricks

The employment scene in Vancouver was not healthy for me in the late eighties so spent a few years in Palm Beach Florida, working on megayacht integrated electronics systems. Whilst there met some wonderful friends, who introduced me to social limiricks, as a result I wrote a couple of hundred limiricks on several different subjects, some of which were mathematical, following are a few examples and would be great as a form of puzzles for you logic solvers;

How longs the log.

A frogs at one end of a log,
at the opposite end is a frog,
six foot from the frog,
and eight foot from the dog,
is a triangle, how longs the log.

Combination Lock.

A locks combination is seen,
has three numbers that add to eighteen,
its root of the third,
for the first, so I heard,
two times that for second, old bean.

Age of the Bride.

Try three times thirteen, and add five,
now double thirteen and divide,
to this just add five,
take the root to surmise,
eight times to this is the age of the bride.

Easy as pie.

If x is the square root of y,
and z is nine x, can you try,
to solve and to see,
how x+y equals z,
so whats x, you tell me.

What then is d.

Its true b+d equals c,
and c equals d then plus three,
if b equals three,
what then is c,
when six times b equals d.

Mathematical limericks are written to be
solved by mental arithmetic.
I will publish more of the mathematical limiricks
at a later date, for more contact;
